Teacher education rooted in community.
The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development established a primary teachers’ college at the site of the former Madziwa Mine, situated approximately 120 kilometres north-east of Harare in Shamva District, Mashonaland Central Province.
The establishment of the college formed part of the Ministry’s mandate to provide skilled national manpower under the Manpower Development Act of 1996, Part II—and marked an important development for Mashonaland Central Province.
Madziwa Teachers College opened its doors on 9 May 2005 to its first intake of 125 students, supported by 20 lecturers and 92 ancillary staff. Since then, the institution has grown into a vibrant centre for inclusive and innovative teacher education.
Today, the college continues to build on this heritage by preparing competent educators whose knowledge, values and practical experience can meet national and international human-capital needs.
